Box Score

COLCHESTER, Vt. – Corey Crawford paced four Saint Michael's College players in double figures with 15 points as it recorded a 64-61 win over Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 men's basketball Saturday afternoon at the Ross Sports Center.  The Purple Knights move to 2-1 and 1-0 in NE-10 play, while the Penmen are 2-1 and 1-1 in the league.

Crawford was 5-7 from the floor, while James Cambronne finished with 14 points.  Mike Thompson added 11 points and eight rebounds, while Mike Holton, Jr. finished with 10 points.

Rodney Sanders (Linden, N.J.) led Southern New Hampshire with 17 points on 6-11 shooting.  Devin Gilligan (Amherst, N.H.) was the other Penmen player in double figures as he finished with 12 points off the bench.

In a back-and-forth affair that saw 13 ties and 10 lead changes, Saint Michael's took the lead, 59-58, with 2:26 left on a Thompson layup.  Sanders tied the game 59-59 with 2:04 left when he made 1-of-2 at the free throw line, but a Cambronne layup on the next Purple Knight possession put the hosts up for good, 61-59.

Sanders cut the lead to one, 62-61, with 11 seconds left, before a pair of Greg Grippo free throws made it 64-61.  The Penmen got one final look as BJ Cardarelli (Manchester, Conn.) threw up a three that rattled around and out as time expired.

Southern New Hampshire held an 18-13 lead midway through the first half following an Elijah Bonsignore (Felton, Del.) three, before Saint Michael's used a 12-4 run capped by a Grippo three to take a 25-22 lead with 4:30 left.  The two teams traded the lead twice, but SMC carved out a 31-26 lead 14 seconds before halftime.  A Max Taylor (Shokan, N.Y.) three as time expired put the Penmen down two, 31-29, at the break.

Saint Michael's shot 51.1% from the floor and knocked down seven of its three-point attempts while limiting the guests to 39% shooting, including a 10-34 (29.4%) effort behind the arc.  The Purple Knights took eight more trips to the free throw line, going 11-17, while SNHU was just 5-9.  The hosts also held a 34-29 rebounding advantage.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action Tuesday night when it hosts defending national champion Bentley University in a 7:30 contest at the SNHU Fieldhouse.
