Box Score COLCHESTER, Vt. – Southern New Hampshire opened Northeast-10 women's volleyball play with a 3-0 win over Saint Michael's College at the Ross Sports Center Saturday afternoon. The Penmen won their third straight to improve to 7-4 and 1-0 in the league, while the Purple Knights are now 4-3 and 0-1.
The set scores were 25-16, 25-11, 25-16.
Junior Catherine Cotton (Murphy, Texas) surpassed the 2,000 assist mark for her career Saturday, as she handed out 38 helpers. Already the program's all-time leader, Cotton now has 2,014 assists in her career. Classmate Nina McGouldrick (Richardson, Texas) led the way with 13 kills and 15 digs for the Penmen, hitting at a .464 clip. She also had five service aces.
Sophomore Megan Salamun (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and freshman Kathleen Schurman (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) added 11 kills apiece. Salamun also had four blocks (two solo, two assists), while Schurman added 12 digs. Junior Maeghan Higgins (Hesperia, Calif.) registered 18 digs on the afternoon.
Saint Michael's was led by Megan Priester's eight kills.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action Wednesday night when it travels to Saint Anselm College for a 7:30 Northeast-10 contest at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.
