MANCHESTER, N.H. – A goal in each half pushed top-ranked Southern New Hampshire University to a 2-0 Northeast-10 men's soccer victory over Stonehill College at Larkin Field Tuesday evening. The win moves the Penmen to 8-0 and 5-0 in NE-10 play, while the Skyhawks are now 5-3-1 and 3-2 in the league.
The win extends SNHU's unbeaten streak to 31 games dating back to last season, while it has won 19 in a row at Larkin Field. The Penmen have also won 26 consecutive Northeast-10 Conference regular-season and tournament contests in a row. Southern New Hampshire is off to its best start since 1988 when it opened with 22 straight victories.
The Penmen got on the board with just over 10 minutes remaining before intermission. Brian Grisell (Brookfield, Conn.) played a ball over to Sebastian Stezewski (New Britain, Conn.), who fired from 15 yards and found the far bottom left corner of the goal for his fourth goal of the season. SNHU carried a 1-0 lead into the break.
Jose Seoane (A Coruna, Spain), who entered the game ranked among the top 15 nationally in scoring, extended the lead to 2-0 in the 59th minute. He took a ball in the box, spun around a Skyhawk defender, and fired a low shot for his team-leading eighth goal of the season.
Southern New Hampshire carried play most of the evening, outshooting the Skyhawks 25-3, including 12-0 in the opening 45 minutes. The hosts also had all 17 of the game's corner kicks.
Dom DiMaggio (Rome, N.Y.) made one save for his third shutout of the season and 22nd of his career, moving him into sole possession of second place in program history in that category. Stonehill counterpart Adam Colella registered eight stops.
Southern New Hampshire is back in action Friday night when it travels to American International College for a 7:00 Northeast-10 contest.
