Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H. – Newcomer Jose Seoane (A Coruna, Spain) scored twice as top-ranked Southern New Hampshire University opened the men's soccer season with a 4-0 win over Bloomfield College Thursday evening in front of over 1,100 at Larkin Field. The game marked the season opener for both schools.
After a scoreless first half, Seoane got the Penmen on the board in the 49th minute. Marked closely by a Bloomfield defender, he fired a low shot from just outside the six-yard box to make it 1-0. Seoane struck again at the 64:40 mark, firing a laser from just inside the 18 into the upper left corner of the Bear goal.
Brian Grisell (Brookfield, Conn.) made it 3-0 in the 77th minute with a great individual effort. He deked a Bloomfield defender from 14 yards out, switched feet, and snuck a ball inside the far left post. Sebastian Stezewski (New Britain, Conn.) scored with just over a minute left when Bear keeper Arthur Clapot came off his line to defend Ryan Reynolds (Springfield, Mass.), and Reynolds played a ball over to Stezewski who shot into a wide-open net all alone.
Graduate student Dom DiMaggio (Rome, N.Y.) went the distance in goal for Southern New Hampshire and made a pair of saves for his first shutout of the season and 20th of his career, moving him into a tie for fourth place in program history. Clapot turned aside seven shots as the Penmen outshot the Bears 16-6 and held a 13-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Southern New Hampshire is idle until next Wednesday, September 10, when it hosts Post University in a 7:00 non-conference contest at Larkin Field.
