MANCHESTER, N.H. – Southern New Hampshire University clamped down defensively, allowing a program-record 30 points en route to a 61-30 non-conference women's basketball victory over Concordia (N.Y.) College Saturday afternoon at the SNHU Fieldhouse. The Penmen upped their record to 10-8, while the Clippers fall to 3-12.
The 30 points allowed mark the fewest given up to an opponent in program history. The previous record of 33 was set on November 18, 2009 against Saint Anselm College in a 53-33 win.
Sara Ryan (Quincy, Mass.) led the Penmen with 12 points on 5-11 shooting, while Victoria Wiseman (Montreal, Quebec) and Olivia Conrad (Hanover, Mass.) finished with nine points apiece. All 11 players who played for Southern New Hampshire reached the scoring column.
Selbe Leo was the lone Clipper in double figures as she contributed 10 points.
Concordia scored the game's first four points and led 6-5 when the Penmen held the guests scoreless for an eight-minute stretch, using a 15-0 run to build an 18-6 lead at the 11:24 mark on a Conrad free throw. The Clippers got the lead down to eight, 24-16, on a Lo basket with 4:36 to go, before Southern New Hampshire closed the half on a 12-1 run to take a 36-17 lead into halftime. SNHU outscored Concordia 11-4 over the first nine minutes of the second half to go up 47-21, and the guests had just one field goal over the final eight minutes.
SNHU limited Concordia to 17.2% shooting in the second half and 20.3% for the game while shooting 34.5% from the floor. The Penmen took 11 more trips to the free throw line, going 18-24 while the Clippers went just 4-13 at the stripe, and the hosts held a 54-41 rebound advantage.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action Wednesday night when it hosts nationally-ranked Adelphi University in a 5:30 Northeast-10 contest at the SNHU Fieldhouse. That game can be heard in the Manchester area on WGIR 610 AM.
