The Southern New Hampshire University volleyball team saw its three-match winning streak come to a close on Friday night, as Merrimack College posted a 3-1 victory at Hammel Court. The Warriors up their record to 8-9 and 3-3 in league action, while the Penmen shift to 9-9 and 4-2 within the confines of the NE-10.

Sophomore Marisa Coronis (Hudson, N.H.) led Southern New Hampshire with 10 kills and six blocks, while classmate Carolyn Scacchi (Peabody, Mass.) added nine kills and a pair of blocks. Seniors Maeghan Higgins (Hesperia, Calif.) and Nina McGouldrick (Richardson, Texas) collected 18 digs, and Catherine Cotton (Murphy, Texas) dished out 37 assists in the setback.

After dropping the first game, 25-17, the Penmen rallied to take the second by a score of 25-21. Merrimack staked itself to a 7-1 lead before Southern New Hampshire battled back to even the score at 11. The teams exchanged points before a pair of blocks by Coronis and freshman Holly Adams (Hopkinton, Mass.) sandwiched an attack error by Sofia Basauri to push SNHU ahead, 24-21. Cotton set up Coronis on the next point to close the game and knot the match at one apiece.

In the third, sophomore Victoria Wehrmann (Dallas, Texas) tallied her seventh kill of the contest to make it six-all before the Warriors reeled off the next seven points to take a 13-6 advantage. The Penmen again battled back, as they answered the Merrimack run with a 13-7 spurt to draw within one at 20-19. Mary Kate McCarroll and Jennifer Cain pushed the hosts ahead by a pair after back-to-back kills, and Southern New Hampshire responded with a kill by Scacchi and a tandem block from Coronis and Cotton to close the gap to 23-22. Cain collected two straight kills to put the game out of reach, and Merrimack carried a 2-1 edge through three.

The Warriors jumped out to a 10-6 lead in the fourth before Cotton set up Adams and Coronis on consecutive points to trim the deficit to a pair. After a McCarroll kill made it 11-8, Merrimack picked up 14 of the next 15 points to claim the final game by a score of 25-9.
