Fourth-ranked Southern New Hampshire University tallied a season-high six goals from six different goal scorers in a 6-1 victory over Assumption College on Tuesday. The Penmen up their record to 14-1 and 11-1 in the Northeast-10, while the Greyhounds fall to 2-11-4 and 2-6-4 in the NE-10.
Graduate student Sofiane Tergou (Bitche, France) got SNHU on the board just 5:54 into the game with his sixth goal of the season. Tergou cashed in on a free-kick opportunity, as he tucked his shot inside the left post to give the Penmen a 1-0 lead.
Less than 10 minutes later, senior Sebastian Stezewski (New Britain, Conn.) doubled the advantage and provided Southern New Hampshire with all the offense it would need for the remainder of the evening. Stezewski was able to slip behind the Assumption defense and break in one-on-one against Greyhound goalkeeper Dana King. Stezewski deposited a shot into the back of the net for a 2-0 lead for the visitors.
After graduate student Rayane Boukemia (Strasbourg, France) extended the Southern New Hampshire edge to three at 23:42, Assumption cracked the scoreboard 1:25 later. Ethan Morrow headed home a crossing pass off the foot of Jordan Cavaco from five yards out to trim the Penmen lead back to a pair.
SNHU didn't waste much time in responding, as junior Michael Rowley (Cooperstown, N.Y.) netted his fifth of the season 31:10 into the first half to regain the three-goal advantage. Tergou started the play by sending a through ball into the right corner for Diesse. Diesse tracked the ball down and crossed a pass into the box that Rowley drilled past King, and provided the Penmen with a 4-1 lead at intermission.
In the second, senior Jaytoe Teh (Springfield, Mass.) connected on his first goal in a Southern New Hampshire uniform to make it 5-1 just over 15 minutes into the half. Senior Jonathan Lupinelli (Mont de Marsan, France) struck a corner kick that sailed to the far side of the box, and Teh took a settling touch before turning and firing a shot to the back of the cage at 60:19.
Freshman Claude Diesse (Brossard, Quebec) capped the game's scoring with 3:53 to play when he converted a rebound attempt for the first goal of his career.
Senior Nick Zucco (Ludlow, Mass.) earned the win in goal for the Penmen, as he stopped one shot in 71:10 before freshman Danny Milton (Ajax, Ontario) closed out the contest.
