Volleyball Bests Saint Anselm in See-Saw Affair

The Southern New Hampshire women's volleyball team outlasted Saint Anselm College in a five-set contest Tuesday night, rallying for a 15-13 win in the final set.

Marisa Coronis (Hudson, N.H.) led four SNHU players in double-digit kills with 16, while Megan Salamun (Scottsdale, Ariz.) notched 14 on .480 hitting.  Victoria Wehrmann (Dallas, Texas) added 11 kills, while Carolyn Scacchi (Peabody, Mass.) finished with 10.  Catherine Cotton (Murphy, Texas) handed out a season-best 55 assists to go along with 12 digs.  Maeghan Higgins (Hesperia, Calif.) posted 25 digs, while Nina McGouldrick (Richardson, Texas) totaled 17.

In the deciding fifth set, Saint Anselm held a 10-9 lead when SNHU reeled off four straight points to take a 13-10 lead.  The Penmen led 14-11 on a Scacchi kill before the Hawks scored the next two points.  Holly Adams (Hopkinton, Mass.) ended the match with a block of Saint Anselm's Katy Teets.

SNHU held a 16-13 lead in the fourth set before a 5-1 spurt gave the Hawks an 18-17 lead.  From there the set saw four ties before Saint Anselm took the final two points for a 25-23 win.  The Penmen held a 23-21 lead in the second set before the guests scored the final four points to tie the match 1-1.

Notes:
 - At 4-1 in league play, SNHU matches its best start in Northeast-10 action.  The Penmen also began NE-10 play 4-1 in 2004.
 - Saint Anselm hit .221 as a team while SNHU hit .185.  The Hawks also racked up 14 blocks on the evening.
 - Southern New Hampshire has won three straight, and has won its last six against Saint Anselm dating back to 2013.

What's Next:

Southern New Hampshire is idle until October 16, when it travels to Merrimack College for a 7:00 match.
