Sophomore Marisa Coronis (Hudson, N.H.) recorded a team-high eight kills, while junior Megan Salamun (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and freshman Holly Adams (Hopkinton, Mass.) each added seven, but the Southern New Hampshire University volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Adelphi University in both teams' regular-season finale on Saturday afternoon.
The Penmen had already clinched a spot in the Northest-10 Championship with their victory Friday, while the Panthers will enter the conference postseason as the top seed after going a perfect 14-0 in league play during the year.
Coronis hit .211 and added a block to her stat line. Salamun hit a team-best .333 to go along with four blocks and three digs, while Adams hit at a .250 clip and dug four balls. Senior Catherine Cotton (Murphy, Texas) notched her second straight double-double with 33 assists and 11 digs. Senior Maeghan Higgins (Hesperia, Calif.) contributed 15 digs and two service aces, while sophomore Kathleen Schurman (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) added 11 digs.
Adelphi jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first set before a 3-0 Penmen run – capped by a service ace from senior Nina McGouldrick (Richardson, Texas) – knotted the score at 4-all. The set was still tied at 7-7 when Adelphi reeled off three straight points to take a 10-7 lead. Southern New Hampshire would close to tie it again at 15-15, but a 4-0 run from the Panthers opened their advantage to 19-15. The Penmen would again climb back to within 20-19, but Adelphi closed the set on a 5-1 surge to take the frame.
The Panthers built a 7-2 lead to begin the second set before a pair of kills from Adams powered a 5-0 strike that tied the frame at 7-all. Adelphi went up 13-12 and eventually stretched the lead to 16-14 when a 6-1 spurt widened the host's lead to 22-15. The teams traded points the rest of the set as Adelphi grabbed a 2-0 lead in the match.
Two kills each from Adams and sophomore Carolyn Scacchi (Peabody, Mass.) helped Southern New Hampshire move out to a 7-3 lead in the third set, but Adelphi battled back with three straight points to pull within one. A kill and block from sophomore Victoria Wehrmann (Dallas, Texas) triggered a 3-0 counter-run that pushed the Penmen advantage to 10-6. Southern New Hampshire led 13-10 when a 5-0 run gave Adelphi its first lead of the set, but the Penmen responded with a 3-0 counter-spurt – sparked by a pair of Scacchi kills – to go back in front, 16-15. The set was tied at 18-all when a 7-1 Adelphi run ended both the set and the match.
Notes:
- Adelphi outhit Southern New Hampshire, .254-.151, including .400-.278 in the middle set.
-With two important seeding matches remaining on the day's docket, the Penmen can finish as high as the sixth seed and as low as the eighth seed.
-Higgins is now just seven digs shy of the program's all-time record.
-Cotton's double-double is her 13th of the season.

The Penmen will travel for a Northeast-10 Championship quarterfinal match to either Adelphi, Franklin Pierce University or Bentley University on Tuesday, Nov. 17.
