Sophomore Marisa Coronis (Hudson, N.H.) recorded a match-high 10 kills and registered a pair of blocks. Junior Megan Salamun (Scottsdale, Ariz.) added eight kills and two blocks, while hitting .312. Sophomore Victoria Wehrmann (Dallas, Texas) blasted seven kills on the strength of a .438 hitting percentage and also added five digs and a pair of blocks. Sophomore Kathleen Schurman (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) posted a team-high 15 digs.
Trailing 2-1 in the opening set, Southern New Hampshire reeled off five straight points to go up, 6-2. The lead was 9-6 when another five-point run, which included a pair of McGouldrick kills, opened up a 14-6 lead for the hosts. SNHU built its largest lead of the set at 20-11, but a 6-1 AIC run – with three kills from Annie Boele – trimmed the deficit to 21-17. A Salamun kill with the Penmen up five finished off the set.
SNHU led 8-6 in set No. 2 when a 12-4 surge – powered by three Wehrmann kills – stretched the lead to 20-10. The teams basically swapped points the rest of the set before a Coronis kill put the Penmen up 2-0 in the match.
Two McGouldrick service aces and a pair of kills from sophomore Carolyn Scacchi (Peabody, Mass.) helped make up an 11-2 Penmen run to begin the third set. A 9-3 counter-run from the Yellow Jackets pulled them to within 14-11, but three straight points – with two coming via the McGouldrick kill – gave Southern New Hampshire some breathing room. AIC then ripped off a 9-2 run to open up a slight 20-19 edge. The Yellow Jackets increased their lead to 22-20 before a 4-0 spurt – bookended by Wehrmann kills, put SNHU up 24-22. AIC would win the next point, but a block assist from Wehrmann and Salamun would win the Penmen the match.
