A late goal by Sebastian Stezewski (New Britain, Conn.) lifted the fifth-ranked Southern New Hampshire men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over American International College Saturday night.
The Penmen were awarded a penalty kick with just over five minutes left for a Yellow Jacket handball in the box, but Sofiane Tergou's (Bitche, France) attempt was stopped by AIC keeper Sebastian Tamayo. The rebound bounced out to Tamayo's left, and an opportunistic Stezewski put home the rebound for his third goal of the season.
SNHU got on the board 38 seconds before intermission when Matt Crowley (Cumberland, Maine), making his first appearance in a Penmen uniform, put home a short pass from Tergou from eight yards out to give the hosts a 1-0 halftime lead. AIC tied the game just over five minutes into the second half when Alec Cerquiera headed home a long free kick by Juan Correa.
Nick Zucco (Ludlow, Mass.) made one save in goal for SNHU, while Tamayo made eight saves.
Notes:
- Southern New Hampshire outshot AIC 25-4, including 15-2 after intermission.
- The Penmen have not surrendered more than one goal in a game all season.
- SNHU sits alone in first place in the Northeast-10 after Merrimack, the other unbeaten team in the league entering Saturday, fell to Le Moyne.
