When and Where: October 1, 2016 – Manchester, N.H. (SNHU Fieldhouse)
Score:
Southern New Hampshire University 3, Assumption College 1
Records:
SNHU 3-12 (1-2 NE-10), Assumption 2-10 (1-4 NE-10)

Junior Marisa Coronis (Hudson, N.H.) racked up 18 kills and hit .432 to lead the Southern New Hampshire University women's volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-19, 22-25, 30-28, 27-25) victory against Assumption College on Saturday afternoon at the SNHU Fieldhouse.

Despite trailing, 4-0, and then later, 14-8, in the opening set, Southern New Hampshire clawed its way back into it as a 7-2 run – powered by three kills from junior Carolyn Scacchi (Peabody, Mass.) – slashed the deficit to 16-15. After two straight Assumption points made it look like the Greyhounds were going to pull away, the Penmen responded by reeling off 10 of the final 11 points of the set to go up, 1-0, in the match. Five different Penmen recorded a kill during the stretch, including senior Victoria Wehrmann (Dallas, Texas), who contributed a pair. Freshman Joanne Coffey (Merrimack, N.H.) added a kill and the set-clinching service ace.

SNHU held a 20-18 edge in the second set when Assumption used a 5-0 spurt to grab a 23-20 advantage. A Coronis kill and a Zara Valez attacking error pulled the Penmen within one, but back-to-back kills from Valez tied the match at 1-all.

Set No. 3 was tied at 24 when a Coronis kill pushed the Greyhounds to the brink. Assumption would answer the bell three times, however, before taking a 28-27 lead. Another Coronis kill knotted the set at 28 and then an attacking error and blocking error gave the Penmen the marathon win and a 2-1 edge in the match.

With the fourth set even at seven, a 10-2 run – with three kills from freshman Jaclyn Maguire (Rochester, N.Y.) – broke open a 17-9 advantage for Southern New Hampshire. Assumption responded, however, with a 9-2 run to slice the deficit to 19-18. The set was later tied at 25 when an attacking error set up match-point and Scacchi came through with a blistering swing on a ball that was called in to give the Penmen the win.

Coronis added 3.5 total blocks to her stellar offensive outing. Wehrmann posted 13 kills and three total blocks, while Maguire notched a double-double with 11 kills and 18 digs. Coffey also collected a double as she dished 48 assists and tallied 16 digs. Scacchi finished with nine kills and senior Megan Salamun (Scottsdale, Ariz.) added eight kills and eight digs. Junior Kathleen Schurman (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) amassed 28 digs, with freshman Jessie Leclerc (Englewood, Fla.) and sophomore Shaira Sanabria (Tampa, Fla.) chipping in 16 and 11, respectively.

-The Penmen outhit Assumption in all three sets, as well as .209-.168 for the match.
