Junior Marisa Coronis (Hudson, N.H.) posted 15 kills and 11 digs, but the Southern New Hampshire University women's volleyball team was defeated by Le Moyne College, 3-1 (25-21, 25-27, 25-18, 25-23), Friday evening at Ted Grant Court.
Le Moyne scored the first three points of the opening set and later clung to a 22-21 lead when three straight kills by three different players put the Dolphins up 1-0 in the match.
Southern New Hampshire then notched the first three points of set No. 2 and found itself deadlocked in a 25-25 tie when a Coronis kill and a Le Moyne attack error evened things at 1-all.
The Penmen held a 7-6 lead in the third set when a 6-1 run from Le Moyne gave it a 12-8 advantage. The Dolphins' lead was down to 18-17 when they ended the set on a 7-1 run that gave them a 2-1 lead in the match.
Southern New Hampshire fell behind, 12-5, in the fourth set, but a 10-3 rush that featured kills from four different players, including one from Coronis, gave the Penmen a 22-20 lead. Le Moyne then responded by taking five of the next six points to win the match.
Senior Victoria Wehrmann (Dallas, Texas) produced nine kills, 12 digs and 3.0 total blocks, while senior Megan Salamun (Scottsdale, Ariz.; nine digs) and freshman Amanda Costales (Wantagh, N.Y.) each added eight kills. Freshman Joanne Coffey (Merrimack, N.H.) tallied 38 assists, seven digs and 4.0 total blocks. Junior Kathleen Schurman (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) collected 16 digs, while sophomore Shaira Sanabria (Tampa, Fla.) added 10. Junior Carolyn Scacchi (Peabody, Mass.) chipped in six kills.
Notes:
-The Penmen outhit the Dolphins, .290-.234 in the opening set, but Le Moyne owned a .208-.196 advantage for the match.
