Senior Victoria Wehrmann (Dallas, Texas) rattled off 19 kills in the second match at the Georgian Court Invitational on Saturday, but the Southern New Hampshire University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of decisions at the Georgian Court Wellness Center Gymnasium. The Penmen opened the day with a 3-0 loss (25-17, 25-13, 25-22) to West Chester University and then fell to host Georgian Court, 3-2 (24-26, 23-25, 25-22, 25-23, 15-5).
The first set with Georgian Court went back and forth until the Lions opened a 17-11 advantage that eventually ballooned to 23-16. Southern New Hampshire then ripped off a 10-1 run, which featured a trio of kills from junior Marisa Coronis (Hudson, N.H.), to steal the set.
Despite the thrilling first-set win for the Penmen, it was Georgian Court with the early momentum in set No. 2 as the Lions jumped out to a 5-0 lead. SNHU answered with a 6-2 run, which included a pair of kills from Wehrmann, to trim its deficit to one. Georgian Court would lead for the last time in the set at 15-14 but was only down 24-23 when a service error gave the Penmen a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
The third set was tied at 14-all when Georgian Court ran off five straight points to take a 19-14 advantage. Southern New Hampshire would battle back to within 24-22, but a Peggy Rosario kill forced a fourth set for the Lions.
The fourth set was tight the entire way, with Georgian Court prevailing, 25-23, to bring on a fifth and final set. The Lions completed the improbable comeback as they went up 12-2 in the set and cruised to victory.
Wehrmann registered 19 kills on .375 hitting to go along with five kills, two block assists, and a service ace. Coronis posted 13 kills and six digs, while senior Megan Salamun (Scottsdale, Ariz.) collected 11 kills and 3.5 total blocks. Freshman Joanne Coffey (Merrimack, N.H.) earned her third career double-double with a career-high 53 assists and 13 digs. Freshman Jaclyn Maguire (Rochester, N.Y.) tallied double-double No. 2 of her career with 11 kills and a career-best 20 digs. Junior Kathleen Schurman (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) amassed 16 digs, with freshman Jessie Leclerc (Englewood, Fla.) chipping in 12.

-The 19 kills were the second-highest number of Wehrmann's career behind the 22 she tallied in a 3-2 win at Assumption College on Sept. 17, 2013.
