Stonehill led 17-12 in the opening set when a 6-2 run – with kills from four different Penmen – slashed the Southern New Hampshire deficit to 19-18, but the Skyhawks would hold on for the 26-24 victory to go up, 1-0.
In a tightly-contested second set, SNHU led 24-23 when a pair of errors and a kill from Markay Nasby pushed Stonehill over the top at 26-24 and gave the Skyhawks a commanding 2-0 advantage.
Stonehill then went up, 19-12, in the third set, before a pair of kills from Coronis powered a 6-0 run that trimmed the Southern New Hampshire deficit to 19-18. The Skyhawks responded by reeling off five of the next eight points, but a kill from freshman Jaclyn Maguire (Rochester, N.Y.) led a 2-0 spurt that made it a 24-23 set. Following a timeout, however, a kill from Megan Pennino gave Stonehill both the set and the match.
Freshman Joanne Coffey (Merrimack, N.H.) narrowly missed out on a double-double with 22 assists and nine digs, while Maguire chipped in four kills and six digs. Freshman Jessie Leclerc (Englewood, Fla.) collected nine digs.
