Senior Michael Rowley (Cooperstown, N.Y.) notched a goal and two assists, as the 14th-ranked Southern New Hampshire University men's soccer team erased a one-goal, second-half deficit to clip Stonehill College, 4-2, Saturday afternoon at Skyhawk Field.
Junior Alex Satrustegui (Pamplona, Spain) also had a day for the Penmen, scoring for the sixth time in seven matches this season and handing out an early assist.
After Stonehill scored two unanswered goals, including one to take the lead at the 56:33 mark of the match, Southern New Hampshire responded by netting the equalizer early in the 60th minute. Rowley set up sophomore Romain Daniellou (Brest, France) on the left side of the box following a well-worked passing sequence that resulted in the match-tying goal.
The game remained even until late in the 70th minute when Rowley played the role of playmaker again, using a quick restart to find freshman Daniel Jones (W. Hartford, Conn.), who put the ball inside the right post for his first career strike and one that put the Penmen back on top, 3-2.
Then, just 17 seconds later, SNHU struck again as Satrustegui headed a ball across the goalmouth and into the right side off a pass from freshman Tom Marriott (Nottingham, England), padding the lead with less than 20 minutes to play.
Those final minutes were competitive and physical, with a pair of cards being issued. Stonehill nearly made it a one-goal game midway through the 77th minute, as Justin Brehm hit the post and two other Skyhawks sent shots just wide.
Junior goalkeeper Daniel Milton (Ajax, Ontario) did not make a save, while Stonehill keeper Conor McDonough turned away three shots over the first 75:57 of action. Jeremy Zielinski did not face a shot over the final 14:03 of the match.
Rowley put Southern New Hampshire on the board late in the 26th minute as he collected the loose ball after a shot from Satrustegui and deposited it inside the right post to make it 1-0.
Stonehill responded with just under six minutes to go before halftime when Connor O'Brien took a feed from Brehm and found the back of the net from 25 yards out, beating Milton to tie the match.
The Skyhawks went ahead midway through the 57th minute as Adam Branco's cross from the left found the foot of Mackenzie Hoglund, who booted the ball into the goal to put the hosts in front, 2-1.
