Senior Marisa Coronis (Hudson, N.H.) recorded a team-high nine kills, but the Southern New Hampshire University women's volleyball team ran into a hot Bentley University team Friday night and absorbed a 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-17) loss at the Dana Center.

Bentley clung to a 9-8 advantage in the first set when a 6-2 spurt opened up a 15-10 lead. After Southern New Hampshire pulled within 16-12, the Falcons scored seven of the next 10 points to inch closer to taking the set at 23-15. The Penmen scored three of the next four, including a kill from junior Priscila Castro (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) that made it 24-18, but Bentley would get the kill it needed to go up, 1-0, in the match.

Southern New Hampshire again trailed by just one, 8-7, in the second set, went Bentley made another run, ripping off 10 of the next 13 to open a commanding 18-10 lead. Bentley would nudge the lead to nine before a pair of Coronis kills highlighted a 6-3 run that again made it 24-18. The hosts would again receive the kill they were looking for, however, to take a 2-0 lead.

SNHU would tally the first three points of set No. 3 and begin the stanza with a 9-5 run – with two kills and a service ace from sophomore Amanda Costales (Wantagh, N.Y.). Bentley would then use an 18-6 rush to go in front, 23-15. The Penmen would inch to within 24-17, but Bentley fittingly ended the match with another big kill to earn the sweep.

Coronis added eight digs and a service ace to her nine kills, while Castro posted five kills and 15 digs, with Costales also notching five kills, to go with five digs. Junior Jessica Dillon (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) tallied five kills, 14 assists and eight digs. Senior Kathleen Schurman (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) collected 11 kills and sophomore Joanne Coffey (Merrimack, N.H.) chimed in with nine helpers and six digs.

-Bentley outhit Southern New Hampshire in all three sets and .190-.043, overall.
