A 65th-minute goal proved to be the difference, as Merrimack College knocked off the 19th-ranked Southern New Hampshire University men's soccer team, 1-0, Tuesday night at Martone-Mejail Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless first half, Merrimack broke through just under 20 minutes into the second stanza when Tola Showunmi delivered a pass along the endline into the six-yard box for Filippo Begliardi Ghidini, who tapped the ball past senior goalkeeper Daniel Milton (Ajax, Ontario) to make it 1-0.

- Milton made one save, while Merrimack goalkeeper Tyler Packett stopped a pair of shots.
- The Penmen owned a 14-8 advantage in shots, including 6-2 in the second half.
- Southern New Hampshire also held a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.

- The start of the game was delayed an hour due to lightning in the area.
- SNHU will be home in the NE10 quarterfinal round Tuesday, Oct. 30 (7 p.m.) and can finish with either the No. 3 or 4 seed.
