Sophomore Irem Bat (Istanbul, Turkey) notched a match-high 13 kills and a career-best 21 digs to lead the Southern New Hampshire University women's volleyball team to its fourth straight win Thursday night in a 3-0 defeat of Saint Michael's College at the Ross Sports Center.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS

  • Bat hit .290, as she registered her fifth double-double of the season.
  • Junior Jaclyn Maguire (Rochester, N.Y.) reached double figures in kills with a season-high 10 on .304 hitting.
  • Senior Jessica Dillon (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) added a double-double with 15 assists and 10 digs, while also picking up a service ace.
  • Junior Joanne Coffey (Merrimack, N.H.) led the team with 17 assists and added seven digs.
  • Junior Amanda Costales (Wantagh, N.Y.) posted eight kills and swung at a .364 clip.
  • Senior Priscila Castro (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) chipped in six kills.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Southern New Hampshire led, 4-3, early on in the opening set before an 11-4 flurry, buoyed by four kills from Castro, opened the advantage to 15-7. The margin was seven at 18-11 later in the set when four Bat kills helped make up a 7-3 run that put the Penmen up, 1-0, in the match.
  • SNHU trailed, 13-11, in set No. 2 when it ripped off 11 straight points – with Maguire contributing three kills, and Costales and freshman Isabelle Wild (Pompano Beach, Fla.) each adding a pair – to bust open a 22-13 advantage. Saint Michael's would notch five straight to cut it to four, but a pair of Costales kills – sandwiched around a Palmer ace – gave the Penmen the set and a 2-0 lead in the match.
  • The Purple Knights were within three at 21-18 in the third set, but back-to-back Maguire kills and a Costales ace began what would be a match-ending 4-1 run, as Dillon put the finishing touches on the match with a kill that sealed the sweep.
