Sophomore Irem Bat (Istanbul, Turkey) recorded a double-double of 11 kills and 19 digs, but the Southern New Hampshire University women's volleyball team was blanked by Bloomsburg University, 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-19), Friday afternoon in its opener at California (Pa.) University's Vulcan Invitational at the Convocation Center.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Bat was the only Penmen in double figures in kills, hitting .259 to go along with a pair of blocks.
- Senior Jessica Dillon (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) just missed a double-double with 11 assists and nine digs.
- Sophomore Joanne Coffey (Merrimack, N.H.) tallied 13 assists, six digs and a pair of service aces.
- Senior Shaira Sanabria (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) collected 22 digs.
- Senior Priscila Castro (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) chipped in six kills and four digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The opening set was even at 3-all when Bloomsburg rattled off a 12-4 run – highlighted by a trio of Emma van Arsdale aces – to make it 15-7. A 5-0 spurt later in the set, which featured a kill and ace from Coffey, pulled the Penmen to within 21-16. SNHU would three times get to within four points, but the Huskies would answer each time to take the set.
- SNHU led, 24-23, in a tightly-contested second set, but Bloomsburg would notch the final three points, including two off kills from Mia Nicholes, to go up, 2-0, in the match.
- Bloomsburg built a 17-9 lead in the third set, but the Penmen would not roll over. Instead, they ripped off a 7-1 run, buoyed by a pair of Fontaine kills, to slash the deficit to 18-16. That would be as close as SNHU would come, however, and Bloomsburg would secure three of the final four points to earn the sweep.
