Men's Soccer Erupts for 4-0 Victory at Saint Michael's

Graduate student Alex Satrustegui (San Sebastian, Spain) scored twice Wednesday afternoon, as the Southern New Hampshire University men's soccer team posted a 4-0 victory over Saint Michael's College at Duffy Field.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
  • The two goals mark Satrustegui's first multi-goal game of the year and move him into a first-place tie on the team.
  • Freshman Sinisa Sprecakovic (Mannheim, Germany) registered a goal and an assist, as he gave the Penmen a 2-0 lead in the 21st minute, before setting up Satrustegui's first strike in the 28th minute. He ranks third on the team in goals (4), assists (3) and points (11), has now scored in back-to-back contests.
  • Senior Michael Goncalves (Ludlow, Mass.) scored the eventual game winner just 5:01 into the contest. He has now scored in four of the last five matches, including three straight, and owns a five-match point streak. Goncalves is tied for the team lead in goals (5) and leads the squad in points (14).
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Patrick Quinn (Manchester, N.H.) stopped all three shots that came his way for his first career clean sheet.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Satrustegui would add his second marker just 1:59 before the break to extend SNHU's lead to 4-0.
  • Saint Michael's goalkeeper Tommy Coil made four saves.
  • The Penmen outshot the Purple Knights, 13-4, including 8-2 in the opening stanza.
  • SNHU also held a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks, including 7-0 prior to halftime.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire is unbeaten over its last five contests (3-0-2).
  • SNHU records its second shutout of the season and first since the season opener against Queens (N.Y.) College (2-0) on Sept. 5.
  • After seeing its 12-match unbeaten streak against Saint Michael's snapped in Colchester on Oct. 27, 2017, the Penmen respond in their first match back there to improve to 26-3-2 all-time versus the Purple Knights.
  • The pair of goals mark the ninth multi-goal performance of Satrustegui's career, including the first of 2019.
  • Satrustegui has now scored in 28 of the 40 matches he has played in with the Penmen, who are 24-3-1 (.875) when he finds the back of the net.
  • SNHU moves to 99-19-14 (.803) over its last 132 matches dating back to the beginning of the 2013 National Championship season.

  • The Penmen return to action Saturday, Oct. 26 (4 p.m.) when they take on the University of New Haven.
  • The next home contest for the SNHU is Tuesday, Oct. 29 (7 p.m.) when they play host to crosstown-rival Saint Anselm College at Penmen Stadium.
