Men's Basketball Holds Off Bentley for 87-81 Win

Senior Eamonn Joyce (Medford, Mass.) netted 28 points to help lead the Southern New Hampshire University men's basketball team to an 87-81 victory against Bentley University on Saturday afternoon at the Stan Spirou Field House.

KEY MOMENTS
  • Southern New Hampshire trailed by two with just over eight minutes to go in the second half when it used an 18-2 blitz - with six points from Almonacy, five from Sanders, four from Long and three from Joyce - to grab its largest lead of the contest at 73-59 with 4:39 left.
  • Bentley answered with a 12-2 counter-run that featured five different scorers and slashed its deficit to 75-71 with 2:12 on the clock, but that was as close as the visitors would get, as SNHU closed it out by going 9-for-12 from the line.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Chris Hudson led Bentley with 28 points (9-15 FG, 1-4 3-FG, 9-9 FT), while Jordan Mello-Klein added 23 (9-15 FG, 2-6 3-FG, 3-3 FT).
  • The Penmen outshot the Falcons, 52.6 percent (30-57) to 49.2 percent (30-61), including 52 percent (13-25) to 33.3 percent (7-21) from beyond the arc.
  • Bentley was better from the line, 87.5 percent (14-16) to 70 percent (14-20).
  • The Penmen gathered more fastbreak points (15-6) and received more scoring from their bench (20-6), while the Falcons won the glass (34-29) and the paint (38-34), collected more second chance points (7-5), and featured a better assist-to-turnover ratio (14/15-10/13).
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire wins for the sixth time in its last eight games, while Bentley drops its fifth straight.
  • SNHU has won six of the past nine meetings with the Falcons, despite trailing in the all-time series, 28-27.
  • The teams split the regular-season series after Bentley was victorious on its home floor, 75-56, on Dec. 10.
  • Joyce reaches the 20-point plateau for the 11th time this season and 21st time in an SNHU uniform.
  • Sanders scores 20 or more for the second time this season.
  • Joyce passes Will Flowers (1989-93) and Troy Bowen (2005-09) to move into a tie with Eddie Ithier (1983-87) for 44th place on SNHU's all-time scoring list with 1,067 points.
