Penmen snap Yellow Jackets' 10-match unbeaten streak to begin the year

Senior Jackson Rivers (Epping, N.H.) racked up a career-best 11 saves, and graduate student Jannik Mohr (Koblenz, Germany) and sophomore Nicolas Gonzalez (Santander, Spain) scored second-half goals, as the Southern New Hampshire University men's soccer team showed no signs of rust from its 10-day layoff in Wednesday's 2-0 take-down of 14th-ranked and previously-unbeaten American International College at Abdow Field.

KEY MOMENTS
  • Mohr broke the ice 4:34 into the second half when he redirected a corner service from Shubitidze into the back of the net.
  • The score stayed that way until midway through the 64th minute when Selva set up his countryman, Gonzalez, to make it 2-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Rivers made seven of his 11 saves in the second stanza.
  • AIC 'keeper Lucas Morales-Fernandez stopped four of the six shots he faced.
  • The Yellow Jackets outshot the Penmen, 20-13, including 11-6 in shots on target.

NOTES
  • The Penmen, who had last played Oct. 2, are now unbeaten in their last three matches, as well as four of their last five.
  • SNHU improves to 2-2-0 against nationally-ranked opponents this season.
  • Southern New Hampshire leads the all-time series with AIC, 21-2-0, and extends its unbeaten streak against the Yellow Jackets to 15 (14-0-1) dating back to the 2007 campaign. The Penmen are also 5-0-1 on the road against American Int'l, with their last loss in the series coming Sept. 30, 2006 (2-0) in Springfield. SNHU is outscoring AIC, 36-9, during the 15-match unbeaten streak.
  • Shubitidze has now recorded a point in three straight contests, as well as four of the last six.
  • SNHU moves to 108-23-16 (.789) over its last 147 matches dating back to the beginning of the 2013 National Championship season.

  • The Penmen return to action Saturday, Oct. 16 (2 p.m.) when they take on Le Moyne College.
