Field Hockey Wins Second Straight by Doubling Up Southern Connecticut, 4-2

Junior Taylor Marchman (Derry, N.H.) scored a pair of goals, including the eventual game winner, as the Southern New Hampshire University field hockey team recorded a 4-2 victory against Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday afternoon at Larkin Field.

KEY MOMENTS
  • Canfield gave Southern New Hampshire an early lead when she converted a penalty stroke with 2:18 remaining in the opening quarter.
  • After Southern Connecticut leveled the score 3:53 into the second Stanza, Turkmen responded just over a minute later to give the Penmen the lead for good.
  • Just over two minutes later, Marchman followed with consecutive goals 2:26 apart to give the hosts a commanding 4-1 lead with just over five minutes on the clock before halftime. 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • SCSU 'keeper Janelle Ward racked up 16 saves.
  • SNHU owned a 24-10 advantage in shots, including 20-9 in shots on goal.
  • The Owls held a 7-6 edge in penalty corners, which is how they scored both of their goals.
NOTES
  • SNHU wins its second straight contest.
  • The Penmen improve to 5-2 all-time against Southern Connecticut and have won five consecutive meetings, including three straight at home. The last loss for SNHU against the Owls was Oct. 2, 2015 (1-0), while the previous home defeat came Nov. 12 , 2014 (3-2).
  • Marchman has now scored in back-to-back games and ranks second on the team in goals (4), as well as third in points (8).
  • Canfield's goal was the first of her career.

  • The Penmen return to action Monday, Oct. 18 (6 p.m.) when they travel across town to take on Saint Anselm College.
  • The next home game for SNHU is Wednesday, Oct. 20 (4 p.m.) when it plays host to Assumption University at Larkin Field.
