The second-seeded Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team bowed out of the NE10 Championship with a 4-0 semifinal-round loss to third-seeded Franklin Pierce University on Friday afternoon at the Penmen Stadium Tennis Courts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Franklin Pierce took two doubles matches at Nos. 1 and 2 to earn the point and go up, 1-0, in the match.
- The Ravens then came away victorious in singles matches at Nos. 6, 2 and 5 to clinch the victory.
NOTES
- The Penmen were up, tied or close in all three of the remaining singles matches when the contest was clinched. Graduate student Natalie Kallmunzerova (Prague, Czech Republic) was in front of Maria Penalver Aguilo, 7-5, 4-1, at No. 1, senior Alexxa Etienne (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) narrowly trailed Liria Loria, 6-2, 2-6, 0-2, at No. 3, while junior Isabella Andrade (Cochabamba, Bolivia) was up, 6-4, 4-4 against Estela Carra at No. 4.
- SNHU, which was trying to punch its ticket to the NE10 final for the first time since 2013, drops to 14-13 all-time in the NE10 Championship, including 0-1 against Franklin Pierce
- Southern New Hampshire had entered the day having dropped just one point in its last five outings.
- The Penmen, who defeated the Ravens, 5-2, to open the season back on Sept. 12, still lead the all-time series with FPU, 20-8. Franklin Pierce has won three of the last four meetings, however.
