#6 Women's Soccer Drops First Game To #13 Saint Rose

Penmen Fall In Double OT in Battle of NE10 Leaders

The 13th-ranked College of Saint Rose scored with 14 seconds left in the second overtime to hand the sixth-ranked Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team its first loss, 1-0, on Saturday in Albany.

  • Senior goalie Hannah Rose (Waterloo, Ontario) - 3 saves
KEY MOMENTS
  • Caylee Boorse scored the only goal of the game on a blast from the left off a feed from Jen Bartlett that found the upper right corner of the net.  The golden goal was the first of her career.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Saint Rose goalie Marika Laurendeau picked up her NE10 leading eighth shutout of the season.  She made a fine stop to deflect over the crossbar a shot by SNHU senior Oriane Hoeman (Burlington, Mass.) with about 15 minutes to play.  
  • SNHU outshot Saint Rose, 13-8, including 5-4 in shots on target.
  • The Penmen had a 7-2 advantage on corners.
  • Saint Rose Athletic Communications noted the game featured two of a mere nine unbeaten NCAA Division II squads.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire, which is ranked sixth in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division II National Top 25 Poll, saw it's 13-game unbeaten streak snapped. It was the longest to start a campaign for the program since 1989.
  • SNHU trails the all-time series with Saint Rose at 9-14-4, although this was the first win for the Golden Knights since a double-overtime win over the Penmen in 2015.
  • The Penmen extend their shutout streak to 463:24 before the game-winning goal.
  • The Penmen are still outscoring their opponents, 26-7, so far this season.
  • SNHU is now 55-16-11 (.738) over its last 82 matches dating back to the 2016 campaign.
WHAT'S NEXT
  • The Penmen return to action Tuesday, October 26 at Saint Anselm College (3 p.m.) in a Queen City Cup game.
  • The next home contest for SNHU is Wednesday, Nov. 3 (4 p.m.) when it wraps up the regular season by playing host to American International College.
