Penmen Battle Post, Earn 3-1 Win In Hard-Fought Contest Friday

Thurston Notches Another Goal for SNHU

Records: SNHU 3-1 (2-0 NE10), Post 1-3 (1-1 NE10)

Junior George Thurston (Plymouth, Mass.) added his seventh goal of the season, and SNHU never trailed in a 3-1 win over Post University in NE10 action on Friday night at The Ice.  The teams combined for 91 minutes in penalties.

  • Thurston (Plymouth, Mass.) - goal
  • Sophomore Jackson Aldrich (Waterville, Maine) - goal
  • Junior James Nash (Hampton, N.H.) - goal
  • Senior Joseph Fiorino (Willow Grove, Pa.) - two assists
  • Seniors J T Kossakowski (Elburn, Ill.) and senior Adam Mercer (Belchertown, Mass.) combined to stop 30 of 31 shots
KEY MOMENTS
  • The Penmen opened the scoring with a power-play marker at 5:26 of the first period.  Thurston tipped in a blast from senior Jake Cox (Columbus, Ga.).  Fiorino also assisted on the goal.
  • Nash picked up his first goal of the season at 12:01 of the second period to make it 2-0.  Assists were credited to senior Alex Ring (Salem, N.H.) and senior Dominic DiMambro (Troy, Mich.) on the power-play opportunity.
  • Aldrich put the Penmen up 3-0 at 5:12 of the third period with his second goal.  Fiorino and junior Tim Usalis (Danvers, Mass.) had the helpers.
  • Kossakowski played the first two periods, stopping 20 shots.  Mercer played solid in the third, allowing a late power-play goal to Brandon Crowther at 15:45.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Penmen had a 35-31 shot advantage in the contest, but were whistled for 52 minutes in penalties.  
  • SNHU went 2-for-6 on the power-play.  The Eagles went for 1-for-3.
NOTES
  • This was the first of three meetings between the teams this season.   The Penmen lead the all-time series 10-2.
  • Thurston has seven goals to lead the NE10.  His nine total points trail only teammate Cox, who has 10 points.
