Freshman Jack Gray (Lowell, Mass.) scored the first short-handed goal of the season for Southern New Hampshire, but the Penmen fell to Western New England University 3-2 in the opening round of the 26th annual Stovepipe Tournament Saturday at The Ice Den. SNHU will meet Fitchburg State in Sunday's consolation game at 1:40 p.m. Albertus Magnus College and Western New England will meet in the championship at 4:50 p.m.

KEY MOMENTS
- Western New England's Lliam Christiano scored the game's first goal in the final minute of the first period while on the power-play.
- With the Penmen down a man late in the second period, Gray scored on a short-handed breakaway to tie the contest at 1-1. It was his third goal of the season.
- Christiano's second goal of the game for the Golden Bears, at 9:42 of the final period, made it 2-1.
- Just 80 seconds later, Western New England scored again on a goal by Jordie Morgan.
- The Penmen cut the lead to 3-2 on a power-play goal from Thurston at 18:50. Phil Heisse and Ryan Coady were awarded assists.
