Sophomore Matt Amante (West Hempstead, N.Y.) and senior Jake Cox (Columbus, Ga.) tallied power-play goals, but SNHU fell to Fitchburg State 3-2 in the consolation game of the Stovepipe Tournament at The Ice Den in Hooksett. Albertus Magnus College scored a 5-1 win over Western New England University to take the 2021 Championship.

KEY MOMENTS
- A goal by Fitchburg State junior Hunter Fortin gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead. Fortin found the net with a back-hander that beat SNHU's J T Kossakowski (Elburn, Ill.)
- Amante tied the contest at 1-1 late in the second period with the Penmen in a five-on-three situation. Thurston's shot attempted rebounded to Amante for the score.
- Oliver Cookson scored his first career goal, converting a short-handed opportunity at 7:15 of the third period, to put the Falcons up 2-1.
- Just 1:25 later, Fitchburg's Wyann Wilmshurst made it 3-1.
- Cox gave the Penmen some life with his power-play goal at 12:24, but SNHU could not get any closer.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Christopher Mattone made 32 saves to earn the win in net for the Falcons. Kossakowski had 25 saves.
- The Penmen went 2-for-5 on the power-play and Fitchburg State was 1-for-4.
NOTES
- Cox is second on the Penmen with four goals and 10 assists for 14 points. Thurston has 17 points (11 goals, 6 assists).
- Fitchburg State leads the all-time series with SNHU 21-14. The teams had not met since October of 2016.
- Albertus Magnus defeated Western New England 5-1 in the Stovepipe Championship. Albertus Magnus earned its first Stovepipe title, playing in the event for the first time.
- Albertus Magnus goalie Logan Bateman (Ottawa, Ontario) stopped 63 of 64 shots in his two tournament starts and earned the MVP trophy.
