Senior Alexxa Etienne (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) won both her matches, including the clincher at No. 3 singles, to lead the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team to a 5-2 triumph over the University of New Haven on Tuesday afternoon at the UNH Tennis Courts.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Etienne defeated Nicole Mika, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2, at No. 3 singles to finish off the victory and also combined with sophomore Guntra Upeniece (Riga, Latvia) for a 6-2 No. 2 doubles win against Lilia Rodriguez and Karim Carreras.
- Upeniece was a 6-2, 7-5 winner over Alexa Orlando at No. 6 singles.
- Graduate student Natalie Kallmunzerova (Prague, Czech Republic) breezed to a 6-2, 6-1 win against Ivana Andric at No. 1 singles.
- Junior Magdalena Hubickova (Prague, Czech Republic) pulled out a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory against Carreras.
- Senior Elizabeth Dwyer (Cutchogue, N.Y.) and junior Isabella Andrade (Cochabamba, Bolivia) clinched the doubles points by edging Mika and Orlando at No. 3 doubles, 6-4.
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire begins the season 2-0 for the third straight year.
- The Penmen improve to 12-1 all-time against New Haven and have now won two straight in the series.
- Hubickova betters her career NE10 mark to 18-3, while Etienne is now 26-6.
