Field Hockey Battles To Wire, But Falls 2-1 to #5 Stonehill

Sophomore Emma Thibodeau (Danvers, Mass.) scored off a penalty corner early in the third period, but the SNHU field hockey squad could not find an equalizer in a 2-1 loss to #5 Stonehill College on Tuesday night at Larkin Field.

KEY MOMENTS
  • The Skyhawks scored the game's first goal at 8:56 of the first period.  Claudia Crowe took a pass from Elisha Brinkman and found the cage for a 1-0 lead, the only goal of the first half.
  • Brinkman made it 2-0 at 1:34 of the third period period with a shot off a penalty corner from Emma Mawn.
  • Thibodeau, who had scored her first career goal Sunday against Franklin Pierce, tallied at 5:17 of the period.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Thibodeau goal was a backhand blast off a feed from Wolters.
  • SNHU's Pigsley stopped the first penalty stroke by an opponent this season on a try by Madison Halstead at 9:50 of the third period.
  • The Penmen had a 13-9 advantage on shots, with each team recording eight shots on goal.  SNHU had a 10-8 advantage on penalty corners.
NOTES
  • Stonehill leads the all-time series with the Penmen, 7-2.  SNHU had won the previous two meetings.

  • The Penmen play at Mercy on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in a Northeast-10 Conference contest.  The next home game will be Wednesday, October 6 against Saint Anselm College.
