#14 Women's Soccer Outlasts Stonehill, 3-2, in OT to Remain Perfect

Sophomore Alyssa Anderson (Londonderry, N.H.) scored 2:48 into overtime to lift the 14th-ranked Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team to a 3-2 win against Stonehill College on Wednesday evening at Skyhawk Field, as the program matched its best start in 35 years.

KEY MOMENTS
  • Beaumont staked the Penmen to a 1-0 lead midway through the 12th minute, while Butters handed the visitors back a 2-1 edge early in the 18th minute.
  • Stonehill's Camryn Thompson scored her second of the afternoon in the 30th minute to finish the regulation scoring.
  • Anderson gave the Penmen the win when Stonehill failed to clear a ball out of its defensive zone and Anderson slipped a quick shot past Stonehill 'keeper Hanna Copley and into the lower right side of the net.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Z Kaplan (Smithtown, N.Y.) made three saves.
  • Copley stopped two of the five shots she faced for Stonehill.
  • The Skyhawks outshot the Penmen, 16-13, while shots on target were even at 5-all.
  • Corner kicks were also tied, 2-2.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire, which is ranked 14th in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division II National Top 25 Poll, begins the season 8-0 for the first time since the 1986 campaign.
  • SNHU leads the all-time series 21-14-6 and is unbeaten in nine of the last seven 10 meetings (8-1-1) with Stonehill dating back to 2011. The Penmen also extend their road unbeaten streak versus the Skyhawks to five matches (4-0-1).
  • Anderson now holds the team lead in points (9) and is tied with graduate student Allyson Patterson (Seekonk, Mass.) for the lead in goals (4).
  • Butters is second on the team in points (8) and assists (2), as well as third in goals (3).
  • This marked the first time all season Southern New Hampshire has given up more than one goal in a game and is only the second time it has been outshot.
  • The Penmen are still outscoring their opponents,17-4, so far this season.
  • SNHU is now 51-15-10 (.737) over their last 76 matches dating back to the 2016 campaign.

  • The Penmen return to action Saturday, Oct. 2 (7 p.m.) when they take on Pace University.
  • The next home contest for SNHU is Tuesday, Oct. 5 (7 p.m.) when it plays host to Mercy College in non-conference action at Penmen Stadium.
