Women's Volleyball Improves to 3-1 with Two More Wins

Penmen defeat Bloomsburg, Felician to make it three straight victories

Juniors Juliana Pacini (Sao Paulo, Brazil) piled up 34 more kills to lead the Southern New Hampshire University women's volleyball team to a sweep of Sunday's matches at the Stan Spirou Field House. SNHU posted a 3-1 victory against Bloomsburg University in the first match of the day and then closed the tournament with a 3-0 shutout of Felician University.

KEY MOMENTS – BLOOMSBURG MATCH
  • The second set was tied, 24-all, when kills from Thawnghmung and freshman Chiara Di Valerio (Terni, Italy) put the Penmen up, 2-0.
  • SNHU led, 20-14, in the fourth when three kills from Pierce powered a 5-2 run that put the match away.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – BLOOMSBURG MATCH
  • Set scores were 25-20, 26-24, 20-25, 25-16.
  • Pacinini racked up a career-high 23 kills on .333 hitting, to go with 12 digs.
  • Thawnghmung tallied 11 kills, eight digs and a pair of blocks.
  • Bernardis registered 10 kills, 10 digs and two blocks.
  • Pierce posted eight kills (.350), three digs and two blocks.
  • Montefameglio dished 40 assists and collected 11 digs.
  • Wilson notched 34 digs.
  • Junior Ainsley Knox (Houston, Texas) recorded 14 assists and five digs.
  • SNHU outhit Bloomsburg in the first and fourth sets, as well as overall, .294-.152.
  • The Huskies held a 9-1 advantage in aces.
KEY MOMENTS – FELICIAN MATCH
  • Leading 2-0 in the match and up, 7-2, in the third set, the Penmen ripped off six straight to take a commanding 13-2 lead. Di Valerio went on a run as the server for the final six points.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – FELICIAN MATCH
  • Set scores were 25-15, 25-14, 25-21.
  • Pacini again led the way with a match-best 11 kills, seven digs and two aces.
  • Fontaine recorded nine kills (.571) and two blocks.
  • Thawnghmung added eight kills and three digs.
  • Pierce posted seven kills (.500) and two blocks.
  • Bernardis chimed in with six kills (.385), three digs and a pair of blocks.
  • Wilson tallied up 16 digs.
  • Montefameglio registered 16 assists, seven digs and three aces, with Knox adding 15 assists and four digs.
  • SNHU outhit Felician in all three sets, as well as .340-.011 for the match.
  • The Penmen owned margins of 7-2 in aces and 5-0 in blocks.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire improves to 3-1 for the first time since 2014.
  • SNHU is now 1-1 all-time against Bloomsburg, while remaining perfect against Felician at 3-0.
  • The Penmen have captured 10 of 14 sets so far this season.
WHAT'S NEXT
  • The Penmen return to action Saturday, Sept. 11 when they head to Stonehill College for a tri-match against the Skyhawks (11 a.m.) and Assumption University (1 p.m.).
  • The next home contest for SNHU is Tuesday, Sept. 14 (4:30 p.m.) when it plays host to Mercy College at the Field House.
