Penmen Return With 6-2 Win Over Stonehill

SNHU Improves To 8-0 In NE10 Play

Records: SNHU 9-3 (8-0 NE10), Stonehill 4-9-1 (2-4-1 NE10)

(Hooksett, N.H.)  --- SNHU Ice Hockey returned from a longer than expected break with a 6-2 win over Stonehill College Friday night at The Ice Den.  The Penmen tallied four power-play goals to improve to 8-0 in Northeast-10 play.
 

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
KEY MOMENTS
  • The Penmen did not score in the first period, and went to the locker room down 1-0 after Stonehill's Ryan King finished off a shot from the near post for his first career goal.
  • A four-goal second period, buoyed by three power-play goals, put the Penmen up 4-1 after two periods.  
  • The power-play markers by Cox, senior Cole Stewart (Alpharetta, Ga.), and senior Joseph Fiorino (Willow Grove, Pa.), sandwiched the first goal of the season by co-captain Andy Somerville (Medford, Mass.). 
  • Third-period tallies by freshman Jack Gray (Lowell, Mass.) and Thurston finished the scoring for SNHU
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Penmen outshot the Skyhawks 33-19.
  • SNHU went 4-for-8 on the power-play compared to 1-for-6 for Stonehill.  24 penalties were handed out on Friday night.
NOTES
  • The Penmen have taken the first two games of the season-series with Stonehill.  One game remains to be played at Stonehill, which has yet been scheduled.
  • Three SNHU players made career debuts in the contest.  Sophomore forward Jack Morton (Norway, Maine),  freshman defenseman Tucker Twardosky (Merrimack, N.H.) and freshman goalie Cam Bernard (Bedford, N.H.) all played in the game.
WHAT'S NEXT
  •  The Penmen will host Franklin Pierce in a pair of games at The Ice Den.  The teams will meet Saturday (1/22) at 4:40 p.m. and again on Monday (1/24) at 8:00 p.m.
