(Hooksett, N.H.)  --- Senior Andy Somerville (Medford, Mass.) notched a pair of goals in the second period as SNHU topped Rivier University 5-1 at The Ice Den on Friday night.   
 

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
KEY MOMENTS
  • Stewart opened the scoring for the Penmen just 1:20 into the contest, burying a rebound off a shot by senior Joseph Fiorino (Willow Grove, Pa.)
  • Rivier answered with a goal on its first power-play opportunity of the night.  Ryan Nolte was able to score amid a number of players right in front of the net.
  • Junior Matt Monreal (Wauwatosa, Wis.) scored his second goal of the season at 18:40 of the first to put the Penmen up for good.  He was assisted on the power-play goal by Stewart.
  • Just 46 seconds later, senior Travis Quigley (North Babylon, N.Y.) picked up his first goal of the season to extend the lead to 3-1.
  • Aldrich and Heisse, who had assisted on the Quigley goal, were both listed as helpers on Somerville's goals.
  • On the first Somerville goal, at 1:43 of the second period, Heisse sent a long shot in, and Aldrich found Somerville for the tip-in.

  • The Penmen had a 39-28 advantage on shots on goal.
  • SNHU went 2-for-6 on the power play, while the Raiders were 1-for-8.
  • NOTES
  • The Penmen earned a split of two games with Rivier.  The Raiders, a first-year program, had beaten SNHU 5-4 in the first game in program history on Oct. 29 in Nashua, N.H.
  • Mercer improved to 7-1-0 on the season, playing his first game since December 4.
  • The "Stick It To The Stigma" game helped spread awareness about the important of mental health.  The Penmen welcomed Connor's Climb Foundation and The Benny Foundation, two organizations that work to promote mental health awareness and end youth suicide.

  •  The Penmen will start a four-game road swing on Tues. 2/1 with a make-up game against Post University at 12:00 p.m.
  • SNHU's next home game is Saturday, Feb. 12 against Assumption University at 7:40 p.m.
