(Manchester, N.H.) - Southern New Hampshire men's basketball won its fourth consecutive game, defeating NE10 rival Southern Connecticut State 75-63 on Monday night.  Four players hit double figures for SNHU, with sophomore Matt Becht (20 points) leading the way.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
  • Becht- 20 points (5-13 FG, 4-10 3-PT, 6-6 FT), 5 rebounds
  • Junior Ryan Layman (Wrentham, Mass.) - 17 points (7-11 FG, 2-4 3-PT, 1-1 FT), 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block
  • Sophomore Noah Kamba (Lynn, Mass.) - 13 points (4-5 FG, 2-2 3-PT, 3-5 FT), 3 rebounds, 3 assists
  • Senior Corry Long (Cincinnati, Ohio) - 11 points (4-12 FG, 1-4 3 PT, 2-2 FT), 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, 1 block
KEY MOMENTS
  • The Penmen ran out to 13-2 lead to open the contest, and never trailed.  SNHU opened a 41-33 halftime lead with 15-29 shooting in the first half (51.7%).
  • The Owls kept the game close , trailing just 57-53 with 8:05 to play, but the Penmen went on an 8-0 run, capped by a Kamba three pointer and free throws from Becht.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Penmen shot 25-for-55 for the game (45.5 %) with 10-of-22 makes from beyond the arc.
  • Southern Connecticut was 24-for-64 (37.5%) and just 3-for-20 on its three-point field goals.
  • SNHU won the battle of the boards, 36-30.
  • Freshman Derrick Grant (Plainfield, N.J.) scored a career-best nine points, starting for the second consecutive contest.   He also pulled won a game-high 12 rebounds, also a new career mark.
NOTES
  • SNHU leads the all-time series with Southern Connecticut 54-25.  
  • SNHU has won four consecutive conference games to improve to 6-5 in the conference.  
  • Becht made all six of his free throws - and has made all 23 he has attempted over the past five games.  He's 51-57 (89.4%) on the season, which ranks seconds in the NE10.
WHAT'S NEXT
  • The Penmen will host Franklin Pierce on Wed. 2/2 at 7:30 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the SNHU women.
  • Fans attending will be required to wear a face mask, regardless of vaccination status.  The concession stand will be closed.
