Field Hockey Takes Down NE10-Leading New Haven in Shootout

Emma Peeters Makes 10 Saves to Lead Penmen

Score:  Southern New Hampshire University 3, University of New Haven 2 (shootout)
Records: SNHU 4-8 (3-4 NE10), New Haven 7-6 (7-1 NE10)

Freshman Emma Peeters (Wageningen, Netherlands) made ten saves and stopped three shootout attempts, as SNHU defeated NE10-leading New Haven 3-2 on Saturday.     

STANDOUT PERFORMERS KEY MOMENTS
  • New Haven opened the scoring at 7:23 of the first quarter.  Erin Smith carried the ball into the Penmen zone and rolled the ball into the right corner of the cage for a 1-0 lead.
  • SNHU was able to draw even at 6:57 of the second quarter with a goal off a penalty corner.  Bates tallied the goal with a reverse off a pass from sophomore Christis .  Thibodeau also earned an assist with her entry pass off the corner.
  • The Chargers moved in front with 4:34 left in the third period off a penalty corner.  Kelli Jacobson scored the goal and Kat Trammel had the assist.
  • The Penmen tied the game mid-way through the fourth quarter when Marchman took a pass from Wiersma and scored the tie-breaker in a player-up situation.
  • Christis, Bates and Wiersma all connected in the shootout with New Haven unsuccessful on its three tries.  In the shootout, each team has up to five opportunities to score within eight seconds.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • New Haven had an 18-9 shot advantage for the contest.
  • SNHU had a 10-4 advantage on penalty corners.
NOTES
  • Christis leads the Penmen with four goals and four assists (12 points).
  • The Penmen went to a shootout for the first time since the NCAA tournament game Nov. 16, 2019 vs. Kutztown.
  • SNHU improves to 4-1 all-time vs. New Haven.

  • The Penmen will host Saint Michael's College on Tuesday, October 25 at 4 p.m. on Larkin Field in an NE10 contest.
