Men's Soccer Battles #1 Franklin Pierce To End In 1-0 Defeat

Southern New Hampshire University men's soccer battled the nation's top-ranked team to the wire before falling 1-0 to Franklin Pierce University Saturday night at Mark A. Ouellette Stadium.     

STANDOUT PERFORMERS KEY MOMENTS
  • Franklin Pierce had a chance in the 24th minute when Younes Addar took a shot that clanged off the left post.
  • Neal made a pair of terrific saves on Javier Guiterrez in the 33rd and 36th minutes to keep the game scoreless at half-time.
  • Franklin Pierce found the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute.  Rodrigo Parafita threaded a perfect pass to Younes Addar to make it 1-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Ravens held an 19-6 shot advantage in the contest including 10-3 on goal.
  • Franklin Pierce had six corners and the Penmen had one.
NOTES
  • The Penmen have dropped the last four meetings with the Ravens, but SNHU leads the all-time series 30-28-6.
  • The Ravens recorded a ninth consecutive shutout, and have outscored its opponents 57-3 on the season.
  • Southern New Hampshire recognized six senior members before the game:  Paul Makaj (Lagrangeville, N.Y.), Stas Curreri (Bucha, Ukraine), Michael Garcia (New Bedford, Mass.), Julio Betar (Melbourne, Australia), Jaime Selva (Alicante, Spain) and Gabe Pinhancos (North Attleboro, Mass.).

  • The Penmen will close the regular season with a home game on Tue. (Oct. 25) against American International College.  Game time at Mark A. Ouellette Stadium is 7 p.m.
