SNHU Women's Basketball Falls 91-43 To Big East Providence in Exhibition

Senior Adriana Timberlake (Braintree, Mass.) and senior Ariana Koivisto (Pomfret, Conn.) combined for six three-pointers and 25 points as Southern New Hampshire Women's Basketball  dropped a 91-43 decision to Big East member Providence in an exhibition contest on Tuesday at Alumni Hall in Rhode Island.

How It Happened:

-The Penmen hit the first media timeout down 16-9, with three pointers from Timberlake and Koivisto.  A 9-0 run followed pushing SNHU into its first lead at 18-16 on another three by Timberlake.   Olivia Olson, who had nine points in the quarter, hit a pair of field goals as the Friars led 20-18 at the end of the first quarter.
-Providence blanked the Penmen 20-0 in the second quarter to lead 40-18 at the half.  Olson leads the Friars with 15 points. 
-Timberlake hit back-to-back shots early in the third quarter for the Penmen, including another three-pointer and Koivisto added another try to make it 49-28.  SNHU was outscored 23-17 in the third stanza.
-Junior Jessica Knight (Hanover, Mass.) hit for a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter for the Penmen.

Inside the Box Score:
-Olsen finished with a game-high 23 points for the Friars on 10-12 shooting.  She also led Providence with nine rebounds.
-SNHU shot 16-for-58 (.276) for the game and were 6-for-21 (.286) from beyond the arc.
-The Penmen hit 5-for-6 free throws in the contest (.833). 
-The Friars had 43 rebounds to 24 for SNHU – although SNHU did have eight offensive boards.
-All 12 members of the SNHU basketball team played in the contest.

Notes:
-SNHU Head Coach Karen Pinkos is no stranger to Providence college women's basketball.  She served as an assistant coach with the Friars and helped the squad claim a share of the BIG EAST 7 title in 1996.
-The Friars were picked to finish eighth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll, with 34 points  Connecticut is picked to win the league.
 

Next:
SNHU will open the regular season at Saint Anselm College on Friday, November 11 at 6:00 p.m.  The first home game will be played on Tuesday, November 22 at 5:30 p.m. against Bentley University.
