Sophomore Guntra Upeniece (Riga, Latvia) was one of five Penmen to not drop a game all day, as the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team posted a 7-0 victory against Saint Michael's College on Saturday afternoon at the SMC Tennis Courts.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
  • Upeniece blanked Liberty Jackson, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6 singles and also teamed with junior Isabella Andrade (Cochabamba, Bolivia) for a 6-0 No. 3 doubles win against Grace Saunders and Emma Tagliaferro.
  • Andrade posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles against Molly Gannon.
  • Senior Magdalena Hubickova (Prague, Czech Republic) defeated Ava Albis, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles and combined with graduate student Alexxa Etienne (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) for a 6-0 triumph over Albis and Bree Controneo at No. 1 doubles.
  • Etienne was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 3 singles versus Natalle Meiler.
  • Freshman Alina Kupfer (Munich, Germany) took down Controneo, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2 singles. She and grad student Verena Weindl (Munich, Germany) also won, 6-0, at No. 2 doubles to clinch the point against Meiler and Gannon.
  • Weindl scored a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Emma Posada at No. 4 singles.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire begins the season 8-0 for the first time in program history,
  • The Penmen lead the all-time series with Saint Michael's, 19-8, and have now won 10 straight meetings.
  • Hubickova improves to 7-1 at No. 1 singles this season, while Kupfer is now a perfect 8-0 at No. 2 singles.
WHAT'S NEXT
  • The Penmen return to action Tuesday, Oct. 11 (3 p.m.) when they take on Saint Anselm College.
  • SNHU is back home Saturday, Oct. 15 (1 p.m.) when it wraps up the regular season by playing host to Bentley University at the Ouellette Stadium Tennis Courts.
