Women's Volleyball Sets Down Saint Rose, 3-0

Penmen clinch No. 4 seed; will host NE10 quarterfinal match Nov. 10

Sophomore Carmen Bernardis (Trieste, Italy) and graduate student Alice Arletti (Modena, Italy) each notched 10 kills, as the Southern New Hampshire University women's volleyball team wrapped up its regular season Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 blanking of the College of Saint Rose on Senior Day at the Stan Spirou Field House. The win clinched the Penmen the No. 4 seed for the NE10 Championship, which begins next week.

KEY MOMENTS
  • Southern New Hampshire led, 23-14, in the first set when Saint Rose scored five of the next six to close the gap to five, but an Arletti kill would end it and put the Penmen up, 1-0.
  •  Saint Rose owned a 16-11 advantage in the second stanza before a 12-1 blitz – with two kills each from Arletti, Thawnghmung and Bernardis – flipped SNHU in front, 23-17. The Golden Knights would notch four of the next five, but a Bernardis kill stopped the bleeding and made it 2-0.
  • The third frame was knotted at 22-all when Southern New Hampshire rattled off three straight, including a match-clinching kill from Arletti.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Set scores were 25-19, 25-21, 25-22.
  • Sophomore Chiara Di Valerio (Terni, Italy) added five digs.
  • SNHU outhit Saint Rose in all three sets, as well as .250-.174, overall.
  • The Penmen held edges in blocks (5-4) and aces (5-3).
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire has won nine of its last 11, including four of five and three straight.
  • This marks just the fifth time in program history the Penmen have reached 15 or more wins in a season and the first since 2014 when they finished 17-11.
  • SNHU has clinched the No. 4 seed for the NE10 Championship and will play host to fifth-seeded Saint Anselm College in the quarterfinal round on Thursday, Nov. 10 (7 p.m.).
  • This is the first time the Penmen will meet the rival Hawks and the first time, in their sixth NE10 postseason appearance, they will host an NE10 playoff contest.
  • SNHU, which will be looking for its first NE10 postseason win in program history, has never been seeded higher than fifth.
  • The Penmen have now won five straight against the Golden Knights, last losing Oct. 22, 2016 in Albany.
  • SNHU recognized its five-member senior class of Arletti, Montefameglio, Blaskey, Juliana Pacini (Sao Paolo, Brazil) and Ainsley Knox (Houston, Texas) in a ceremony prior to the match.

  • The Penmen play host to Saint Anselm in an NE10 Championship quarterfinal tilt at the Stan Spirou Field House on Thursday, Nov. 10 (7 p.m.).
