INDIANAPOLIS – The Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team garnered its eighth selection to the NCAA Tournament – and fifth straight – when the NCAA Selection Committee announced its field of 56 teams Monday evening.
Southern New Hampshire (6-5-5), which earned an at-large bid, earns the East Region's No. 7 seed and will take on second-seeded and 14th-ranked Franklin Pierce University (14-3-2) in a first round match Friday, Nov. 11 (4 p.m.-Time Change) at Franklin Pierce, which is one of two hosts of the East Regional. The contests will take place at Sodexo Field in Rindge, N.H. The Penmen trail the all-time series with Franklin Pierce, 12-27-1, but hold a 7-6-0 edge over the last 13 meetings dating back to 2010. Ten of those meetings have been decided by a single goal, including the Sept. 21 regular-season meeting in Rindge, which saw the Ravens score a 1-0 victory.
The winner of the SNHU/Franklin Pierce match will meet the victor of the third-seeded University of Bridgeport (13-3-5) and sixth-seeded Saint Anselm College (10-7-1) on Sunday, Nov. 13 (2 p.m.). The winner from that match will head to the highest remaining seed from the East Region to battle the team that emerges from the College of Saint Rose side of the bracket in the third round of the NCAA Tournament on Nov. 17 or 18.
The quarterfinal round will take place at the same sites as the third round Nov. 19 or 20, while the semifinals and final will be played Dec. 1 and 3 at Interbay Stadium in Seattle, Wash., hosted by Seattle Pacific University.
SNHU will be making its eighth appearance, overall, in the NCAA Championship and carries in an all-time record of 1-4-3 (.313). This marks the third time the Penmen and Ravens will meet in the NCAA Championship, with FPU holding a 2-0-0 advantage. The most recent meeting was back in 2003 – a 2-1 home win for the Ravens.
