(West Haven, Conn.) - Sophomore Matt Becht (Vienna, Va.) scored a team-high 14 points and added five rebounds, but Southern New Hampshire men's basketball team lost at NE10 foe New Haven, 70-48, on Thursday night at Charger Gymnasium.

  • Freshman Derrick Grant (Plainfield, N.J.) 8 points (4-10 FG), 5 rebounds

KEY MOMENTS
  • New Haven slowly built a 18-10 lead over the first 10 minutes of the game, but the Penmen closed the half on a 17-7 run over the final 10 minutes of the half to go into the break up 27-25.
  • SNHU extended the lead to 31-27 to open the second half before nine-straight points by the Chargers gave them a 32-31 lead at 16:54
  • New Haven would never give up the lead stretching the lead to 51-36 at 9:22 remaining
  • The Chargers largest lead of the game came at the end at 70-48.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • SNHU held an advantage in bench points at 14-7.
  • The Penmen shot 18-for-68 for the game (26.5%), while New Haven was 22-for-53 (41.5%) and 18-for-27 on its free throws. SNHU went to the line just 10 times going 5-for-10.
  • New Haven's Quashawn Lane led all scorers with 20 points (4-10 FG, 2-6 3PT, 10-11 FT) and added five rebounds and three assists.
NOTES
  • The 48 points were a season low for the Penmen that average nearly 78 points per game.
  • SNHU continues to struggle on the road as it is now 4-7 on the road compared to 7-1 at home.
  • The Penmen shot under 35% from the floor for the first time all season.
  • SNHU has lost 4-of-5 against the Charger dating back to 2017.

  • SNHU will head to Bentley University Saturday afternoon (3:30) for an NE10 contest.  It will be part of a doubleheader with the SNHU women.
  • The Penmen will host Adelphi University on Mon. 2/14 at 5:30 p.m. in the Stan Spirou Field House.  
  • Fans attending will be required to wear a face mask, regardless of vaccination status.  The concession stand will be closed.
