Penmen Hockey Holds Off Assumption 4-3

Ryan Coady's Power-Play tip-in proves to be game-winner

(Hooksett, N.H.)  --- Junior Ryan Coady (Braintree, Mass.) tipped in a blast by senior Phil Heisse (Overland Park, Kan.) to help lead SNHU to a 4-3 win over Assumption in a battle of Northeast-10 league leaders on Saturday at The Ice Den.  The power-play marker mid-way through the final period proved to be the game-winner as the Penmen improved to 12-3 in the league.

KEY MOMENTS
  • Gray and Ray scored first period goals as the Penmen opened a 2-0 lead.  Senior Travis Quigley (North Babylon, N.Y.) collected the puck behind the Assumption net and found Gray on the doorstep for a 1-0 lead.   Ray took a long outlet from senior Gustaf Arfelt (Stockholm, Sweden), skated into the Greyhound zone, and buried a slap shot to make it 2-0.
  • Thurston scored his 17th goal of the season at 11:18 of the second period to make it 3-0.  A pass from senior Jake Cox (Columbus, Ga.) set-up the goal.
  • A short-handed goal by Ronny Paragallo, and another by Robert Holyoke just 46 seconds later brought Assumption back to 3-2 in the opening six minutes of the final period.
  • On the game-winner, a blast from Heisse was tipped in by Coady to make it 4-2 Penmen at 10:11 of the final period.
  • The Greyhounds made it interesting late, scoring a goal by Paragallo in a scramble in front of the SNHU net at 19:17.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Assumption outshot the Penmen in each period, and finished with a 38-20 advantage for the game.
  • The Greyhounds held a 49-28 advantage on face-offs.
  • SNHU went 1-for-4 on the power play, while the Greyhounds were 0-for-2.
  • Mercer started in net for the second consecutive night, and improves to 10-2 on the season.
NOTES
  • The Penmen win the season series with Assumption 2-1, and will hold the tiebreaker in the event the teams were to finish with identical conference records.  SNHU (12-3) has a three-game lead, but the Greyhounds (8-5) have two games in hand.  
WHAT'S NEXT
  • SNHU will make-up a game at Stonehill College on Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.  The final regular-season home game will be next Fri. Feb. 18 at 7:40 p.m. as the Penmen open a home-and-home set against Saint Anselm College.
