George Thurston (Plymouth, Mass.) scored a pair of goals including the game-winner 1:24 into overtime to lift the Southern New Hampshire University men's hockey team to Saturday's 3-2 OT win over Saint Anselm College at Sullivan Arena. The Penmen rallied from an early 0-2 deficit to garner the win over their Queen City rivals.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Thurston factored in all three Penmen goals, netting two and assisting on the third.
- Senior Jake Cox (Columbus, Ga.) registered a pair of assists including a helper to setup the game-winning goal.
- Matt Amante (West Hempstead, N.Y.) also added a pair of assists on the Penmen's first two goals.
- Senior netminder Adam Mercer (Belchertown, Mass.) turned aside 38 shots including 18 shots over the third period and overtime to get the win in net, improving to 12-2 on the season.
KEY MOMENTS
- The Hawks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first period with goals at 13:58 and 17:35.
- SNHU cut the deficit in half as Thurston scored his first of the net at 10:52 of the first with assists from Cox and Amante at 12:53 of the second period.
- The Penmen got the equalizer on the power play at 12:53. Senior Joe Fiorino (Willow Grove, Pa.) scored with assists from Amante and Thurston.
- Thurston scored the game-winner on a nifty backhander at 1:24 into the 3-on-3 overtime period.

- Thurston's two goals put him three goals ahead of St. A's Andrew Andary for the NE10 lead in goals.

- The Penmen bounced back from Friday night's overtime loss and finishes the regular season 3-1 in overtime.
- The Penmen captured a pivotal pair of Queen City Cup points by winning the season-series on Saturday. SNHU currently leads the season-long competition 15-7.
