(Belmont, N.C.) -- Freshman Jordyn Resetar (Hanover, Pa.) drove in a pair of runs, hitting her first career home run on Saturday, but SNHU softball dropped a doubleheader at Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, N.C. The Penmen fall to 0-4 on the season. 

KEY MOMENTS - GAME 1 

  • SNHU jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the third inning with hits from sophomore Bella Dickinson (Scarborough, Maine), graduate student Chloe Griffin (Scarborough, Maine), and sophomore Shannon Gifford (Goffstown, N.H.), however Belmont Abbey rallied in the bottom of the third to take the lead 4-3. 

  • Resetar hit a two-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to take the lead 5-4. 

  • Belmont Abbey rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth and took the lead in the bottom of the sixth off a solo homerun by Payton Whitley. 

  • SNHU freshman Gwyn Hammond (Los Angeles, Calif) (0-2) allowed three hits and one run, in the loss. 

KEY MOMENTS - GAME 2 

  • SNHU scored just two runs on nine hits in the nightcap against Belmont Abbey. 

  • Gifford doubled to left field in the first inning driving in Dickinson to take an early 1-0 lead against the Abbey, but the Penmen would not lead the rest of the way. 

  • Belmont Abbey scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning on just two hits. The Crusaders took advantage of a walk and a series of wild pitches from the Penmen to take the lead. 

  • Belmont Abbey sophomore Kellee Branham broke the lead open with a three-run homer in the bottom of the third inning.  

  • SNHU's only other run would come in the top of the fourth when Gifford scored on a double from senior Emily Carbonneau (Lowell, Mass.) 

  • The Crusaders scored three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 9-2 lead and capped off the game with a single from Junior Mackenzie Sprinkle to score Branham. 

  • Sophomore Alannah Browne improved to 4-0, allowing seven hits and one walk for the Crusaders. Senior Jessica Johnston (Brussels, Ontario) took the loss in her first start of the season. 

UP NEXT 

  • SNHU is scheduled to play its third doubleheader in as many days tomorrow, Sunday, February 20, 2022, in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Penmen play at 10 a.m. against the University of Mount Olive and at 12:30 p.m. against Queens University of Charlotte. Both games will take place at Tuckaseegee Dream Fields.
