Men's Lacrosse Drops Season Opener to Queen City Rival St. Anselm, 21-13

(Hooksett, N.H.) -- Sophomore Jack Terrones (Anaheim, Calif.) scored four goals, but the Southern New Hampshire University men's lacrosse team open the season on Saturday with a 21-7 loss against #9 St. Anselm in NE10 action.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Hawks opened the game with a 6-1 lead. The Penmen responded with back-to-back goals to make it 6-3, but St. A's scored 8-3 to close out the first quarter.
  • St. Anselm opened up a large lead in the second quarter outscoring the SNHU 5-1 in the frame to go into half time up 13-4. The Hawks netted three man-up goals in the quarter.
  • St. A's scored to open the third quarter with a goal to stretch the lead to 10, but the Penmen scored the back-to-back goals to cut the lead to 14-6. The teams traded blows and it was ultimately 19-10 after each team scored six goals in the third period.
  • The Penmen scored three of the final four goals of the game to close out the 21-13 final.
NOTES
  • St. Anselm held a 51-31 shot advantage.
  • SNHU held a slim 44-42 edge in groundballs.
  • The Penmen won 26 faceoffs compared to just 12 by St. Anselm.
  • The Hawks were 4-10 in man-up situations, while SNHU went 3-9.
  • St. Anselm earned two points in the Queen City Cup standings to trim the SNHU lead to 15-9.
