Strong Pitching, Timely Hitting Lead #12 SNHU to Sweep of Stonehill Saturday

Roberge, McCloskey Toss Complete Games- Taveras, Henrie Homer Again

Game 2:  #12 Southern New Hampshire University 2, Stonehill College 1
Records: SNHU 13-4 (3-0 NE10), Stonehill 10-13 (0-3 NE10) 
(Hooksett, N.H.) –   #12 SNHU rode the arms of graduate student Josh Roberge (Chelmsford, Mass.) and senior Angus McCloskey (Farmingdale, N.Y.) to wins of 9-0 and 2-1 over Stonehill College in NE10 play on Saturday.  Senior Sam Henrie (Middleboro, Mass.) and graduate student Idelson Taveras (Lawrence, Mass.) each homered in the first game.
 
GAME 1:  SNHU 9-0
  • Roberge tossed a three-hit shutout, walking one and striking out seven over his seven innings.  He improves to 3-1.
  • Redshirt sophomore Nick Schwartz (Massapequa, N.Y.) drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the first inning for the first Penmen run.
  • Henrie had a two-run homer in a four-run fourth inning as the Penmen opened the lead to 5-1.
  • Taveras hit his fourth home run of 2022, a two-run shot in the bottom of the sixth inning.
  • The Penmen also received RBI singles from redshirt sophomore Cam Caraher (Plymouth, Mass.) and senior Dakota Mulcay (Goffstown, N.H.) in the sixth.
GAM3 2:  SNHU 2-1
  • McCloskey (2-1) went the distance in the second game, allowing one run on three hits.  He walked one and struck out ten..
  • SNHU took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Mulcay singled, and Kennedy followed with an RBI double for a 1-0 lead.
  • The Skyhawks tied the game with an RBI single by freshman Ryan Douglas in the top of the fifth inning.
  • The game-winning run scored in the bottom of the sixth inning.  Redshirt sophomore Cristian Mercedes (Providence, R.I.) reached on an error, and Henrie singled.  Redshirt sophomore Michael LaRocca (Vero Beach, Fla.) stroked a single to right field to plate Mercedes for a 2-1 lead.
NOTES
  • Henrie's home run, his sixth of the season, moved him into a tie for the NE10 lead.  His .403 batting average and 21 RBI both lead the Penmen.
  • Mulcay picked up his eighth RBI of the season in the first game.  His 136 career RBI are the most by a Penmen player, as are his 28 career homers.
  • The Penmen are 37-41-1 all-time against Stonehill.  SNHU has won the last eight, and ten of the last 11 games between the schools.
