Women's Lacrosse Drops Nailbiter to Queen City Rival St. Anselm, 15-14

Cronin netted a career high three goals for the Penmen

Hooksett, N.H. – Senior Erin Gorton (Kennebunk, Maine) netted three goals and added two assists, but the Southern New Hampshire University women's lacrosse team lost, 15-14, in the final minutes to in-state rival No. 20 St. Anselm College on Wednesday afternoon at Penmen Stadium.

  • Junior Courtney Cronin (Woburn, Mass.) – 3 goals, career-high goals
  • Gorton – 3 goals, 2 assists, 4 SOG
  • Junior Skyler Renaud (E. Waterboro, Maine) – 3 goals, 1 assist
  • Sophomore Shelby Cole (Gilford, N.H.) – 2 goals, 4 ground balls
  • Senior Hayle Ashford (Atkinson, N.H.) – 5 saves
  • Sophomore Alexis DeLucia (Uncasville, Conn.) – 4 ground balls
KEY MOMENTS 
  • In an even-played first quarter it was the Penmen that held a narrow 5-4 lead. SNHU got a pair of goals from Madison Keating (Milford, N.H.) netted two goals in the frame.
  • Renaud would score her three goals of the games just minutes apart to extend the lead to 8-4 with 8:30 left in the second.
  • The Hawks responded with four unanswered goals to tie it 8-8 at halftime. The string included a pair of goals from Lexi Palmisano, who finished with a game-high 4 goals.
  • St. A's scored the first to goals of the third to lead it 10-8.
  • The Penmen scored three-straight and four of the next five to lead it 12-11 at the end of three. The offense was powered by Cole (2 goals) and Gorton (2 goals).
  • The Hawks scored the first three goals of the fourth to take a 14-12 lead. SNHU answered with goals by Cronin and Gorton to tie it at 14-14 with 2:13 left in the fourth quarter.
  • St. A's Jenna Balboni netted the game-winning goal with 1:28 left in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

  • SNHU had a 26-25 shot advantage.
  • The Hawks had a 17-16 advantage on groundballs.
  • The Penmen had a 17-16 advantage in draw controls.
NOTES 
  • SNHU has scored 77 goals and allowed 77 goals through six games this season.
  • St. A's improves to 11-8 against the Penmen and have won three straight against the Penmen.

  • SNHU travels to No. 14 Pace on Saturday, April 2 (12 p.m.). The Penmen will be back home on Saturday (April 9) at 1 p.m. to play host to NE10 foe Southern Connecticut State University.
