Softball Sweeps Saint Rose With Identical 4-2 Wins

Dimauro's Big Day Leads Penmen Saturday

(Albany, N.Y.) -- Sophomore Alyssa Dimauro (Chester, N.H.) had a big day, hitting a home run and driving in four runs in SNHU's doubleheader sweep at The College of Saint Rose on Saturday in Albany.  The Penmen won both games by 4-2 scores with sophomore Leine McKechnie (Passadumkeag, Maine) earning the win in the cirlce in both contests.

GAME 1
 - SNHU 4-2
  • The Penmen opened the scoring in the top of the first inning.  Dimauro walked, advancing to second when graduate student Chloe Griffin (Scarborough, Maine) reached on an error.  A single by sophomore Shannon Gifford (Goffstown, N.H.) drove in Dimauro for a 1-0 lead.
  • The Golden Knights tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first on an RBI double by Madison Chandler.
  • SNHU scored its other three runs in the top of the second inning.  Freshman Jordyn Resetar (Hanover, Pa.) homered to to start the frame, her third of the season.  Junior Bryn Garczynski (Norwood, Mass.) was hit by a pitch and Dimauro homered to make it 4-1.
  • McKechnie (W, 3-2) worked the first four innings, allowing one run on five hits.  Freshman Gwyn Hammond (S, 2) allowed an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh inning, but earned the save with three innings of relief.
GAME 2 - SNHU 4-2
  • The second contest of the day followed a similar script, with the Penmen taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.  Dimauro again figured in the scoring, reaching on an error, moving to third on a single by Griffin.  Sophomore Bella Dickinson (Scarborough, Maine) drove in the run with a sacrifice fly.
  • The Golden Knights tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning on a single by Julia Rupinski.
  • SNHU would pull back ahead in the next half inning, scoring twice in the top of the fourth for a 3-1 lead.  Junior Abi Gray (Litchfield, N.H.) doubled and sophomore Abby Hagerty (Marshfield, Mass.) followed with a single.    Saint Rose made an error on Hagerty's stolen base, allowing Gray to score.  A ground out by Garczynski was followed by Dimauro's RBI single to score Hagerty.
  • The Penmen mounted a two-out rally in the top of the sixth inning.  Hagerty, Garczynski, and Dimauro hit three consecutive singles leading to a run.
  • Griffin started in the circle for SNHU, allowing one run in three innings.  McKechnie (W, 4-2) allowed one unearned run in four innings of relief to pick up her second win of the day.  She struck out three.
NOTES
  • The Penmen have now won six of the last eight.
  • Dimauro leads SNHU with seven multiple-hit games this season.
  • SNHU had 10 hits in the nightcap, only the second time this season they have reached double-digits in hits.  They had 11 in a win over Minnesota-Duluth on March 6.
  • SNHU improves to 18-10 all-time against Saint Rose.   The teams had not met since 2012.
UP NEXT 
  • SNHU will play a doubleheader at Le Moyne College on Monday at 11:00 a.m.  The games had originally been scheduled for Sunday, but moved due to anticipated rain.
  • The next home games for the Penmen will come next Sunday, April 10 when SNHU hosts Post University in non-conference doubleheader at the SNHU Softball Field.
